Classes in Crafting Fine Soaps with Pure Essential Oils

Carmel Lavender offers on-farm workshops in crafting artisan soaps. Through much of history, soap making was the craft of turning natural fatty oils into soap. This was often done at home, or by small artisan soap makers. They used time-honored processes and ingredients which by default, produced natural products. By learning the art of soap making, you can bring naturally made soaps into your home. Every time we wash our hands, our face or our body, we put soap on our skin. We will wash ten to twenty times a day. It is one of our more frequent rituals. Much attention is given to what goes inside our body. But what about the outside? Our skin is the largest organ. It is therefore important to consider what goes on our skin just as carefully as we consider the food that we eat. Historians and archaeologists wishing to learn more about 16th century farm life set out to recreate the activities on an authentic 16th century farm. They made one episode for each month. Now the entire series was riveting. However it was the January episode on the preparation of 16th century medicines and home pharmacy that really stuck with …

Public Distillery

The Carmel Lavender distillery offers clients a place to distill essential oils from their own plants and flowers. Integrate aromatic herbs in your garden, and we can process them into essential oils with a multitude of benefits. These flowers and herbs are typically very drought tolerant, helping you reduce your water footprint and your monthly bills. And what’s more, they are beautiful and smell great. When planning your garden or farm, why not include aromatic flowers and herbs that can be distilled into essential oils? Such planning is a time-honored tradition. As far back as the 14th century, kitchen gardens have grown herbs and flowers that had culinary, medicinal, and aesthetic uses in the household. While this tradition has faded, it remains a good idea that you can easily bring home. Plants to Consider There are many different aromatic herbs that make quality essential oils. Lavender is a very beautiful and useful plant to have in the garden. There are many different types and you must choose the one that best suits your needs. Lavender is …
